What exactly is Survival Swimming?

Tiny Bubbles specialize in teaching infants, toddlers and children, from the ages of 6 months to 6 years, the survival swimming skills needed to help survive an aquatic accident.

Tiny Bubbles is unlike any other type of swimming lessons taught in the Valdosta area, we teach such skills as, the back float. Infants and toddlers are not able to raise their heads in the water to take a breath, so we teach them how to roll completely over, onto their backs into a back float, we also teach them to relax and most importantly, to breathe.

Teaching infants, toddlers and and young children survival swimming is preventive medicine in the fight against pediatric drowning.

To protect your child, you need to understand the importance of you child mastering survival skills before attempting to learn traditional swimming strokes.

Survival swimming skills are the foundation for learning correct stroke technique and at the same time, protecting LIFE, by learning skills to help survive an aquatic accident.

Will my child cry during lessons?

The first few weeks in lessons you can expect your child to cry - this is a new environment for your child, it can be a time of apprehension in and around the water because your child is learning new skills that he/she has not had time to perfect yet. Babies also cry because they learn early in life that crying is their BEST form of infant communication, they cry you come an pick them up.

Each child is an individual and they will react to the lessons uniquely.

Some children never cry and most children stop crying when they become skilled in the water - they realize that "THEY CAN DO THIS".

It is very important as a parent, that you "Set the example" by staying "STRONG" and keeping a "POSITIVE" attitude and tone when you are at the pool and even away from from the pool in casual conversation with someone else, while your child is around. They are like sponges at this age - they pick up everything ...........

How do you teach a baby Survival Swimming?

Tiny Bubble's instructors specialize in teaching infants, toddlers and children, from the ages of 6 months to 6 years, the survival swimming skills needed to help survive an aquatic accident. Survival Swimming is unlike any other type of swimming lessons taught in the Valdosta area, survival swimming skills are the foundation for not only helping your child to survive an aquatic accident, but learning correct stroke technique.

We teach such skills as, the back float - Infants and toddlers are NOT able to raise their heads in the water to take a breath, so Tiny Bubbles instructors will teach them how to roll completely over, onto their backs into a back float and teach them to "RELAX" and most importantly, to "BREATHE".

Will my child be drown-proof?

No . . . . NO ONE can ever drown-proof your child.

Will my child learn to fear the water?

It is important that the child not fear the water because being fearful would make it more difficult for the child to learn the necessary skills. There is an important difference between being "FEARFUL" and being "APPREHENSIVE" because you are not yet skilled.

Why don't you teach infants under the age of 6 months?

Children under the age of 6 months are not neurologically mature enough at this stage of their life.

Why are Refresher lessons necessary?

After their initial training, it is recommended that each child participate in 2 Week Refresher Program each year.  Refresher lessons are important because children change so much in a year, both cognitively and physically.

It is important that their aquatic skills mature and grow with them.

What about floatation devices and life jackets?

Flotation devices give children a false sense of security in the water and also hold them in postures that are not compatible with swimming skills.

Flotation devices are for children who cannot swim.

Please DO NOT teach your child that it is safe to play in the water - while relying on a crutch (floatation device), what happens if your child falls in the water accidentally without the floatation device, the crutch? Does your child have the Survival Skills to help him/her to survive an aquatic accident?

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Life jackets must be worn in a boat or around the water (per state laws) when there is the potential for an accidental submersion. They are NOT a substitute for the ability to swim or for adult supervision.
